Mt. Zion Gets By Monticello

In a game heard on WEZC, Drew Sheppard recorded his second straight double-double but it wasn't enough as Monticello fell to Mt. Zion 61-39 in non-conference high school boy's basketball action Friday night in Mt. Zion.

Sheppard had 12 points and 11 rebounds but the Sages mustered little else on offense. Tyler Blythe and Trey Welter had six points apiece.

The Braves turned the Sages over 24 times and Monticello shot just 28 percent from the floor for the game. The Sages went just 3-for-18 from distance.

Mt. Zion didn't fare much better offensively, shooting 40 percent and 6-for-22 from beyond the arc.

Sophomore Lyncoln Koesoter had 15 points to lead the Braves.

Grant McAtee added 11 points.

Sheppard's efforts earned him his third straight ServPro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game award.

Mt. Zion improved to 7-1 overall.

The Sages dropped its second straight to go to 2-3 overall. They return home tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon to host Maroa-Forsyth at 3:15 pm. Hear the action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
