HS BBBall: Monticello Rolls Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond

In a game heard on WEZC, the Monticello Sages scored the first 20 points and never looked back, rolling to a 54-38 win over Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond Tuesday night from Arthur in non-conference high school boy's basketball action.

 

Trey Welter followed up a career night against Maroa-Forsyth Saturday with 14 points Tuesday to lead all scorers. Welter scored a career-best 26 on Saturday at the Sievers Center.

 

While Welter was the only Sages player in double-figures Tuesday, scoring was balanced. Drew Sheppard added eight points, Will Ross scored six and Tylor Bundy, Mick Wright and Maddox Quick each scored five points.

 

Easton Frederick scored 10 fourth quarter points to lead the Knights.

 

Monticello shut out ALAH in the first quarter, leading 15-0 and scored the first five points of the second quarter to open a 20-0 lead and led 31-9 at the break.

 

Monticello scored 22 points in the paint Tuesday night and had 19 second chance points off 15 offensive rebounds. The Sages shot 47-percent from the floor and finished 7-for-17 from beyond the arc. 

 

The Knights drop to 4-5 overall while Monticello improves to 4-3. They take a two game winning streak into Saturday's matchup at the Greenville Shootout against Breese Mater Dei.
