Maroons Take Two in Day 1 Action From Monticello Holiday Hoopla

Juniors Dawson Graves and Brooks Cluver led the Clinton Maroons to victory in its first two games of this year's Holiday Hoopla Basketball Tournament from Monticello High School.

 

The Maroons toppled Ridgeview in the tournament opener 68-36 Monday morning led by Graves' 29 points. The junior grabbed six boards. Cluver added 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds. 

 

Clinton's defense turned 28 Mustangs' turnovers into 35 points and scored 46 points in the paint. 

 

The Maroons held just at 37-33 edge on the boards but turned 18 offensive rebounds into 18 points. 

 

Kam Kelly led Ridgeview with 19 points and Cale Hoffman grabbed a game-high ten rebounds.

 

Ridgeview lost its second game of the night to Monticello.

 

In the nightcap for Clinton, Cluver scored a game-high 20 points as Clinton held off Oakwood, 57-49. 

 

Clinton as a team had more assists than turnovers despite shooting just 39 percent from the floor. 

 

Despite shooting 48 percent from the floor, Oakwood struggled from distance and 15 turnovers resulted in 18 points for the Maroons.

 

Junior Mason Walker added 16 points. Graves had a quiet second game, finishing with nine points and seven rebounds. 

 

Oakwood drops to 0-2 in pool play of the Hoopla after its tournament-opening loss to Monticello.
