HS BBBall: Tuscola Outlasts Monticello

The Tuscola Warriors used suffocating defense to roll past Monticello 42-32 and win the 2022 Holiday Hoopla boy's basketball tournament Wednesday night at the Sievers Center at Monticello High School.

 

The Sages offense sputtered all night, starting right out of the gate where Tuscola scored the first eight points and led 12-2 at point. The Warriors led 12-4 after the first.

 

The Sages were shut out for the second time in a quarter this season when Tuscola opened up a 29-13 lead after three quarters. The Warriors offense wasn't much more efficient, scoring just six points in the frame.

 

Monticello made it close late but could not get the deficit under ten.

 

Jordan Quinn led all scorers for the Warriors with 15 points and six rebounds. Kam Sweetman scored 10.

 

Monticello was led by Trey Welter's 12 points and four assists. Drew Sheppard added seven points and six rebounds. 

 

The Warriors scored 30 of its 42 points in the paint.

 

Tuscola goes to 13-1 overall while Monticello drops to 8-5.
