Brendan Niebrugge scored the first eight points for the Wooden Shoes who jumped out to a 10-0 start. Monticello's offense again sputtered through the first half, although a quick 5-0 run late in the first quarter cut its early ten-point deficit in half.

The Sages managed just four second-quarter points, trailing 19-9 at the intermission.

Drew Sheppard scored six of his team-best eight points in the second half as Monticello's offense picked up but could keep up with T-Town.

The Sages held the Wooden Shoes to 35 percent shooting and T-Town made just 6 of its 21 three-point attempts.

Monticello shot just 27.5 percent from the floor and went 3-for-14 from distance.

The Wooden Shoes outrebounded Monticello 37-26.

Sheppard fell a field goal shy of another double-double for him this season, grabbing 12 rebounds to go with his eight points and earned the ServPro of Piatt DeWitt County Player of the Game.

Caleb Siemer had 10 points and eight rebounds for T-Town. James Niebrugge grabbed eight rebounds as well.

The JV game was interrupted with 6:01 to play in the game as a tornado warning was issued for Piatt County. The crowd was ushered to the storm shelter just behind the gym floor near the locker rooms. Play resumed after about a 45 minute delay.

The Wooden Shoes move to 11-2 overall while Monticello falls to 8-6. The Sages open Illini Prairie Conference play Friday night at IVC in Chillicothe. Game time is 7 pm. Hear the action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
