Lady Maroons Fall To Unbeaten Tuscola

In a game heard Thursday night on WHOW, the Clinton Lady Maroons suffered their first CIC conference loss of the season, 57-49, at Tuscola.

The Warriors entered the game unbeaten and ranked 3rd in Class 1A.  They jumped out to a 20-14 lead after one quarter thanks to a flurry of three's from senior Ella Boyer.  She would lead Tuscola with 21 points; 18 in the first half.

Tuscola extended their lead to 15 at half, and looked poised to pull away. However, the young Lady Maroons turned up the defense, and only allowed 20 second half points. Clinton outscored Tuscola 27-20 over the final half, but the early deficit proved too great.

Clinton was led by sophomore Reagan Filkin with 21 points.  She was named the Serv Pro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game.  Freshman Clara Dempsey added 9, and junior Heidi Humble had 8 for Clinton.

Tuscola improved to 21-0 overall, and 4-0 in the CIC. Clinton falls to 10-11 on the season, and 3-1 in conference.  They'll next play Saturday at Illini Central.

Our next WHOW Maroons Game of the Week broadcast is Tuesday night when the boys host Meridian. Hear live varsity action around 7:30p on all WHOW platforms.
