Big Third Quarter Lifts Monticello Past Paxton-Buckley-Loda

In a game heard on WEZC and at dewittdailynews.com, Monticello overcame a sloppy first half to put together a strong third quarter and rolled Paxton-Buckley-Loda 52-34 in Illini Prairie Conference boy's basketball action Friday night in Paxton.

Drew Sheppard scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half, Raiden Colbert had another solid game with 11 points and Trey Welter battled through second-half foul trouble to score 11 points for the Sages.

Monticello led 26-18 at the half and outscored PBL 17-5 in the third quarter holding on from there.

The Sages committed 12 first-half turnovers but managed to shoot 7-for-14 in the first half.

Sheppard's 18 points and work on the glass earned him the ServPro of Piatt/DeWitt Counties Player of the Game.

Kayden Snelling led the Panthers with 14 points.

PBL falls to 3-17 overall. Monticello goes to 13-7. It's a tough week ahead for the Sages who host the second-ranked Prairie Central Hawks Tuesday night and travel to the eighth-ranked St. Joe-Ogden Spartans next Friday night.

Both games are set for 7 pm tip times and can be heard on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com. Also, join us Monday night for Monticello girls' basketball action hosting Rantoul at 7 pm on WEZC.
