HS BBALL: Lady Maroons Outlast Sullivan For CIC Consolation Championship

In a game heard Thursday night on WHOW, the Clinton Lady Maroons held off the Sullivan Lady Redskins, 40-36, to take the Consolation Championship at the CIC Tournament.

Clinton jumped out to an early lead off a couple of three pointers from freshman Clara Dempsey.  However, things would cool off for both teams. Clinton led 12-6 after the first, but were outscored 8-6 & 8-7 over the next two quarters to cut the lead to 25-22 after three.  The Redskins managed to take their first lead with 4:45 to go in the game, but Clinton came through at the free throw line down the stretch.  The Lady Maroons were 12 of 13 at the line in the fourth; led by Dempsey's 8 of 9. They were able to hold on for the four point win.

Dempsey was named the WHOW / Serv Pro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game.  She led all scorers finishing with 18.  Sophomore Reagan Filkin added 9, and junior Heidi Humble had 7.

Sullivan was led by senior Alaina Moore with 10, while sophomore Addison Minor added 8. The Lady Redskins fall to 9-17 with the loss.

Clinton improves to 13-15 with the win. They'll next travel to Central A&M next Thursday night.  Hear varsity action from that contest beginning around 7:30 that night on all WHOW platforms.
