In a game heard on WEZC and at dewittdailynews.com, Champaign St. Thomas More rolled past Monticello 61-30 in Illini Prairie Confernece girl's basketball action Thursday from the Sievers Center at Monticello High School.
Madelynn Swisher scored 14 of her game-high 21 points in the first half.
STM would have had a 30-point advantage entering the fourth quarter if not for a three pointer from Monticello sophomore Lucy Leatherwood who beat the buzzer with the last-second heave to make the score 50-21.
But a pair of Swisher free throws moved the lead for STM to 30 and the final six-plus minutes were running clock in the lopsided victory for the Sabres.
Leatherwood would score 11 of her team-high 12 points in the second half and beat the buzzer again at the end of regulation - much to the delight of the Monticello bench and fans.
Rory Quarnstrom scored 15 points for the Sabres who go to 22-5 overall.
Monticello falls to 7-20. They return home Monday to host Tolono Unity. Hear Monday's action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
