HS BBBall: Clinton, Monticello In Postseason Action Tonight

The Clinton Maroons begin the 2023 Class 2A high school basketball playoffs tonight hosting Maroa-Forsyth.

The Maroons program has been turned around by first-year hall-of-fame basketball coach Vic Binkley with the team's first 20-win season since the mid-90s.

Clinton is out to prove the 20-win campaign is no fluke and reverse a long trend of postseason frustration. The Maroons haven't won a Regional since 2001.

The Trojans last year had a magical run to a Sectional semi-final, winning its first Regional title since its state championship team of 2007.

Clinton and Maroa-Forsyth met once in the second game of the season for the Trojans, a 62-55 win for Clinton at Maroa-Forsyth High School.

Game time tonight is 7:30 pm from Clinton High School and action can be heard on WHOW its many digital platforms.

The Monticello Sages enter action tonight with a matchup against Iroquois West.

The Sages enter action winners of two straight following its first four-game losing streak in nearly a decade and a stretch where they lost six of nine.

The Indians are 23-6 overall.

Monticello was last year's 2A runner-up but graduated nearly all of its production from last year's team and found itself going through some growing pains with a younger, inexperienced roster this winter.

The Raiders and Sages have not matched up.

Game time tonight is 7:30 pm. Hear the action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
