HS BBBall: Big Second Half Propels Monticello Past Iroquois West

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Monticello opened the second half on a 12-3 run and finished the frame on a 9-0 run, and rolled past Iroquois West 63-38 in Class 2A high school boy's basketball Regional semifinal action Wednesday at Prairie Central High School.

 

The game was tied at 24 at the intermission and after the score was tied at 27, the Sages finished the quarter outscoring the Raiders 18-5. 

 

The final 25-point margin was the biggest lead Monticello would hold.

 

Trey Welter and Tylor Bundy led the Sages with 13 points. Welter scored 10 of 13 points in the first half and had seven assists with some brilliant plays to help Monticello pull away in the second half. 

 

Bundy grabbed five rebounds. 

 

Raiden Colbert finished with 11 points, knocking down three three-pointers. 

 

Welter was named the ServPro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game. 

 

Sam McMillan had 15 points and Cannon Leonard scored 13 points for Iroquois West.

 

The Sages shot 53 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Raiders 26-21. 

The Raiders finish the season 23-7 overall. 

 

Monticello moves to 17-13 overall and will get a rematch of last year's GCMS Regional championship with Prairie Central Friday night at 7 pm.
