HS SBALL: Sullivan Holds Off Clinton In CIC Opener

In a game heard Wednesday afternoon on WHOW, the Clinton Lady Maroons fell to Sullivan, 1-0, in both team's Central Illinois Conference opener.

The Lady Redskins scored the game's only run in the top of the first inning.  Senior Chloe Smith singled to lead off the game, and was driven home three batters later by Senior Maddy Probst's rbi single.  From there both teams threatened, but neither were able to break up the pitcher's duel.  Probst got the win for Sullivan pitching 7 innings of three hit ball; allowing no runs while walking 1 and striking out 4.

Ashley Armstrong pitched well for Clinton despite taking the tough luck loss.  The Junior threw 7 innings allowing one run on 7 hits while walking 2, and striking out 4.  Armstrong was named the WHOW / Serv Pro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player Of The Game.

Offensively the Maroons were led by Reice McCormick's double.  Mea Kivlehan and Alaina Soberalski each had singles.

Sullivan improves to (3-1) on the season, and (1-0) in the CIC.  They host Tuscola Thursday.

Clinton falls to (3-6) overall, and (0-1) in conference.  They'll travel to Shelbyville Thursday afternoon.

Our next Maroons "Game of the Week" broadcast comes your way next Tuesday at 4:30pm when the Maroons host Meridian in CIC baseball action!
