HS Baseball: Monticello Rolls Champaign Central

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Luke Teschke was sharp for a second straight outing and kept Champaign Central in check waiting for his own offense to come alive as Monticello toppled the Maroons 8-1 for the Sages' second straight win over a 3A opponent this week at Monticello High School in non-conference high school boy's baseball.

Monticello beat Lincoln by the same score Monday at Lincoln High School.

Teschke struck out ten across five innings of one-run ball. He allowed two hits and permitted just two free passes. The Illinois State commit has found a rhythm on the mound the last few weeks. He struck out eight in four scoreless innings over Oakwood last week.

The Sages drew 12 walks against Central pitchers. They scored three runs in the first inning but were limited until the fifth inning when they sent ten batters to the plate and scored five runs to break the game open.

Sophomore Colton Vance finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Teschke doubled in reaching base twice and Biniam Leinhart stole bases, reaching base three times for Monticello.

Jack Buckalew walked three times and drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk. Jacob Trusner walked twice and drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk.

Teschke earned his second straight ServPro of Piatt/DeWitt Counties Player of the Game award.

The Maroons drop to 4-2 overall while Monticello moves to 4-1.

The Sages continue play Thursday traveling to Prairie Central and then take on GCMS on Friday.

Hear more Sages baseball on WEZC a week from Saturday when Monticello hosts IVC at 11 am.
