Indiana State Finishes Three-Game Sweep of Illinois State

Illinois State led through four innings but dropped a 4-3 decision at Indiana State Sunday at Bob Warn Field, closing the series sweep.

 

Illinois State (10-16 overall, 2-7 Missouri Valley Conference) got a two-RBI double from Luke Lawrence, who had three hits, to lead 3-2 through four innings but the Sycamores (18-12 overall, 8-1 MVC) tied the game in the 5th inning and took the lead in the 8th inning.

 

Indiana State scored twice in the opening frame before a single from sophomore Nick Strong got the Redbirds on the board with a two-out single in the 4th inning.

 

Lawrence delivered the big blow with a line shot to left-center field to plate two Redbirds and provide a 3-2 Illinois State lead through four innings.

 

Indiana State tied the game in the 5th inning and scored in the 8th inning to take the lead.

 

Jayson Hibbard matched the longest start of his career (4/2 vs Missouri State) with a seven-inning outing. Hibbard allowed three runs with four strikeouts.

 

Auggie Rasmussen stole his MVC-leading 13th base of the season.

 

Illinois State is scheduled to host Illinois on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. CT at Duffy Bass Field. The Redbirds also host Murray State April 14-16.
