HS BBall: Clinton Hands Warrensburg-Latham First Loss

In a game heard Tuesday afternoon on WHOW, the Clinton Maroons downed the visiting Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals, 5-2, in CIC conference baseball action.  It was the first loss of the season for the Cardinals.

Warrensburg threatened to take the lead right away.  The Cardinals loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the first, but Clinton's Mason Walker struck out Jason Clark to end the threat.

Clinton then jumped out to a two run lead in the bottom half of the inning, and would never trail.  Colton Walker's sacrifice fly to score Jack Manning, who reached on a walk, opened the scoring.  Noah Bass then singled home Mason Walker to give the Maroons a 2-0 lead.

Warrensburg scored a run in the third, while the Maroons added a run in the fourth.  Two more runs in the fifth driven in again by Colton Walker and Noah Bass extended the Maroons lead to 5-1.   The Cards put a run across in the seventh, but Brooks Cluver held things down to pick up the save.

Clinton's Mason Walker got the win.  He pitched four and two thirds, allowing one run on two hits while striking out 10, and walking eight.  Cluver worked two and a thirds innings for the save allowing one run on a hit with three strikeouts and two walks.

Noah Bass led Clinton at the plate going 3 for 3 with two runs batted in.  He was named the WHOW / Serv Pro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game.  Mason Walker was 1 for 1 with two walks and two runs scored.  Colton Walker went 1 for 2 with two RBIs for the Maroons.

Evan Gottman took the loss for Warrensburg. He gave up two runs on two hits while walking three and striking out 5.   John Hall went 1 for 2 with an RBI double and two walks.  The Cardinals fall to 8-1 on the season, and 4-1 in the conference.

Clinton improves to 3-5 on the year, and 2-3 in the CIC.  They'll next play at Central A&M on Friday.
