HS Baseball: Buckalew Leads Monticello to Shutout Win Over Mattoon

Jack Buckalew threw six shutout innings leading Monticello to a 2-0 win over Mattoon in non-conference high school boy's baseball action Tuesday in Mattoon.

Buckalew struck out nine and permitted four hits. Spencer Mitze struck out two in the seventh inning to preserve the shutout.

The only runs in the game came on a misplayed fly ball in the outfield off the bat of Jacob Trusner that allowed two runs to score.

Trusner came within inches of hitting a home run in his third consecutive game. He hit a deep drive off the yellow, plastic guards in center field and wound up with a triple but Monticello could not score him from third.

Logan Chupp was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk.

The Sages go to 8-1 overall and will host Tolono Unity on Thursday afternoon. Hear the action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
