HS Softball: Monticello Blanks Clinton

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Reese Patton spun seven sterling, shutout innings and Monticello blanked Clinton 4-0 in non-conference high school girl's softball action Wednesday from Clinton High School.

Patton struck out four and allowed two hits. At one point, she set down 10 in a row and retired 14 of her final 15 batters faced.

Freshman Cassidee Stoffel doubled in two runs as part of a three-run third inning that put the Lady Sages in front 3-0.

Clinton's Ashley Armstrong was strong in circle and settled down after the three-run third. She retired the first two batters she faced in the fifth inning but back-to-back errors set up a base hit by Monticello sophomore Catie Swartz that scored Stoffel to make it 4-0.

Armstrong allowed four runs though three were earned. She struck out seven and walked one.

Stoffel finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs while Swartz finished 2-for-4 and Patton was 2-for-3.

Alaina Soberalski was 1-for-3 for Clinton and Avery Smith was 1-for-2.

Patton was named the ServPro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game.

The Lady Maroons drop to 3-11 overall while Monticello improves to 5-5.
