Mt. Pulaski Holds Off Midwest Central

The Mt. Pulaski Hilltoppers held off Midwest Central 7-4 in a Tomahawk Conference high school baseball victory Thursday in Manito.

 

The Hilltoppers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings but the Raiders scored the next four to tie the game. Mt. Pulaski answered with a run in the sixth to go ahead for good and two more in the seventh. 

 

Chance Payne paced the Hilltoppers' offense finishing 3-for-4 and doubled twice. Liam Smith was 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI. Smith's double in the seventh scored two and AJ Bailey tripled in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning. 

 

Evan Cooper went five innings, striking out four and walking two. Landon Smith closed the door for the save with two shutout innings. 

 

Mt. Pulaski goes to 11-1 and 3-0 in the Tomahawk. They will host Lexington Saturday afternoon.
