HS Baseball: Slow Start Dooms Monticello

The Monticello offense was slow to get going Friday and fell to Paxton-Buckley-Loda 8-3 in Illini Prairie Conference high school baseball action Friday in Monticello.

Friday's game was a make-up of Thursday's contest that was called shortly after players had taken the field but lightning in the area delayed the start before the game was postponed.

Luke Teschke went five innings of four run ball, but only one was earned. The junior Illinois State-commit struck out six, walked two and permitted four hits.

Colton Vance continued his hot hitting with a double and an RBI.

Jeremiah Ager struck out seven in six innings of three-run ball with seven strikeouts. The senior lefty walked four and allowed three hits.

PBL goes to 8-10 overall and 2-2 in the Illini Prairie Conference.

Monticello has lost three of its last four, dropping to 11-4 overall and suffered its first Illini Prairie Conference loss to go to 4-1.

Friday's matchup could be a preview of a Regional matchup, as PBL and Monticello have a good chance to be placed in the same Regional.

The schedule doesn't lighten up for the Sages who travel to Pontiac on Monday, with Bloomington Central Catholic and St. Joseph-Ogden still to battle before postseason play begins in mid-May.
