HS Baseball: Monticello Tops Pontiac

The Monticello Sages bounced back from a frustrating week last week and touched up Indiana-commit Henry Brummel for seven runs, rolling past Pontiac 7-1 in an Illini Prairie Conference showdown at Pontiac High School Monday.

Ike Young's first inning, bases clearing triple jump started the Sages offense, which had sputtered in losing three of its last four games.

Jack Buckalew looked sharp in a complete game effort. A leg injury has hampered the senior for the last few weeks but he looked like a number one Monday. He struck out six, walked two and permitted four hits.

Biniam Lienhart was 2-for-4 with a run for the Sages.

Brummel drove in the only run for Pontiact with a double in the fourth.

The Sages are 12-4 overall and 5-1 in the Illini Prairie Conference. They host Tri-Valley on Wednesday.
