HS Baseball: Clinton Downs Bombers

In a game heard Wednesday afternoon on WHOW, the Clinton Maroons downed the visiting Argenta-Oreana Bombers, 11-1, in six innings.  It was the Maroons second straight short game after pummeling Central A&M 15-0 in four innings on Tuesday.

Wednesday's non-conference matchup started with the Bombers jumping out to a one run lead in the top of the first on two hits and an error. However, the Maroons would tie it up in the bottom half of the inning on Colton Walker's RBI grounder that scored Jack Manning.

From there, Manning was masterful on the mound.  He went the distance tossing six innings of five hit ball only allowing the one run with four strikeouts and only one walk to pick up the win.  The freshman also led Clinton at the plate going 3 for 5 with 2 RBI.  Jack Manning was named the WHOW / Serv Pro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game.

The Maroons would add a run in the second, two in the third, and then five in the fourth.  They put Argenta away with two in the bottom of the sixth on Manning's two run single to wrap up the 11-1 win.

Clinton saw contributions throughout the lineup.  Other notables included Noah Bass, who went 2 for 3; Colton Walker went 1 for 2 with 2 RBIs; Preston Curtis was 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Mason Walker went 1 for 4 with an RBI triple.

Argenta-Oreana was led by Rylan Lawson's 2 for 3 day.  Dylan Ragsdale took the loss for the Bombers, who drop to (5-13) on the season.  They'll travel to Cumberland on Friday.

Clinton improves to (9-8) overall.  They'll return to CIC play Thursday on the road at St. Teresa.

It was also announced during the broadcast that Clinton will host Prairie Central in the first round of the Class 2A Baseball Regionals on May 15th. You'll be able to hear that game on all WHOW platforms.
