HS Baseball: Monticello Blanks Clinton

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Clinton freshman Jack Manning went toe-to-toe with Illinois State-commit Luke Teschke but the Monticello junior overpowered the Maroons in a 4-0 win Wednesday in non-conference high school boy's baseball action at Clinton High School.

Manning and Teschke matched zeros on the scoreboard for four innings before the Sages finally scratched across a run on Biniam Lienhart's infield single scoring Ike Young.

Teschke labored through five shutout innings while striking out 11 and walking three. He permitted two hits.

Manning went six innings of one-run ball, allowing six hits, a walk and struck out five.

Jacob Trusner's three run home run in the seventh inning broke the game open for Monticello. The senior finished a frustrating 1-for-4.

Manning frustrated the Monticello bats all afternoon.

Colton Walker put on a show in left for the Maroons. The sophomore made a tremendous sliding catch as big brother Mason slid out of the way on a drive to gap in the fourth inning off the bat of Colton Vance.

The brothers both went for a fly ball in the third inning on a fly ball from Raiden Colbert. The younger of the Walkers took a put-out away from big brother on the play.

Lienhart finished 2-for-4 with a pair of stolen bases for Monticello. Sophomore Matt Swarts was 2-for-3 and Dylan Brown was 2-for-3 for the Sages.

Brock Wilson and Josh Bass finished 1-for-3 for Clinton. Mason Walker was 0-for-2 with a walk. Jaxon Reynolds finished 0-for-2 with a walk as well.

The Maroons drop to 9-11 overall while Monticello moves to 19-4.

Clinton finishes its regular season Friday hosting Cerro Gordo-Bement.

Monticello wraps up its home schedule hosting Mt. Zion Friday and has a last-minute game at Mt. Pulaski on Monday before the postseason opens next Wednesday.
