HS Baseball: Maroons Clip Hawks To Advance

In a game heard Monday afternoon on WHOW, the Clinton Maroons topped Prairie Central, 4-2, in Class 2A Regional baseball action at Clinton High School.

A four run third inning, and a masterful performance on the mound led Clinton to the win.

The Maroons broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third when a lead off walk, a Mason Walker double, and an rbi single from Josh Bass plated Jack Manning.  Walker would score on an rbi bunt by his brother, Colton.  Preston Curtis also drove in a run in the inning for the Maroons.  Prairie Central would scratch across an unearned run in the fifth, and then Hawks catcher Noah Nagel homered in the sixth, but the Maroons would hold onto the two run win.

Mason Walker went the distance on the mound for Clinton despite dealing with an apparent blister on his throwing hand.  The Junior lefty allowed only two runs on two hits over seven innings, while striking out 12, and walking three.  He improves to 5-1 on the mound this season.

Walker also led the Maroons at the plate going 2 for 3 with a double.  He was named the WHOW / Serv Pro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game. Other Maroons notables included Jack Manning, who went 1 for 3 with a double and a walk;  Josh Bass was 1 for 2 with a RBI, and Preston Curtis was 1 for 2 with an rbi and a walk.

Prairie Central ends the season at 8-19 overall.

The Maroons improve to 11-11 on the year, and advance to take on Tremont Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 at Tri-Valley High School in Downs.  You can hear the action on all WHOW platforms!
