HS Softball: Lady Maroons Fall To Normal U-High In 2A Regionals

In a game heard Tuesday evening on WHOW, the Clinton Lady Maroons saw their softball season come to an end at the hands of the Normal U-High Pioneers, 13-5, in Class 2A Regional Semifinal action at Bloomington Central Catholic High School.

The Lady Maroons got on the board first in the top of the second on an Ashley Armstrong sacrifice fly that scored Kylee Issac.  The Pioneers would tie the game in the bottom half of the inning, but Clinton re-took the lead, 3-1, in the third on a two run double from Reice McCormick.  Normal U-High turned on their offense in the fourth inning scoring six runs to go up, 7-3, including a three run blast by Emme Steward. The Pioneers would add six more runs over their final two at bats.  Clinton would get a lift in the fifth off a Heidi Humble solo homerun, and an RBI groundout by Alivyah Haynes, but it wasn't enough to overcome U-High.

McCormick was named the WHOW / Serv Pro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game.  The Senior went two for four with two doubles, and two runs batted in for the Lady Maroons.  Ashley Armstrong took the loss in the circle for Clinton. The Junior tossed five and two thirds innings giving 10 runs on 17 hits while striking out two and walking two.  Humble went two for three with the homer, and Haynes finished one for three with and RBI.  The Lady Maroons end their season at 9-21 overall.

Normal U-High advances to Saturday morning's Regional Championship to face either BCC or Tri-Valley.

Speaking of Tri-Valley, don't forget that the Clinton Maroons travel to Downs Wednesday afternoon in 2A Regional baseball action to take on Tremont.  First pitch is 4:30pm, and you'll be able to hear the action on all WHOW platforms.
