HS GBALL: Lady Maroons Fall To Athens

In a game heard Tuesday night on WHOW, the Clinton Lady Maroons fell to the Athens Warriors, 51-42, in a non-conference girls basketball game at Clinton High School.  
 

The Warriors jumped in front in the first quarter 12-9, and then held a 27-21 lead entering the half.  Athens pulled away in the third to lead 42-30 going into the final frame. Clinton was able to cut into the lead in the fourth, but came up short, 51-42. 
 

The Warriors improve to 2-1, and were led by Ellie Westervelt's 18 points.  Zoe Laird added 11 for the Warriors. 
 

The Lady Maroons were led by Avery Smith's 19-points. She was named the WHOW / Serv Pro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game. Reagan Filkin scored 10, and Carly Anderson added 6 for Clinton. 
 

The Lady Maroons fall to 2-3 on the season.  They next play Monday at Tolono Unity. Our next Lady Maroons broadcast on WHOW is Thursday, November 30th, at 7:30pm versus Argenta-Oreana. 
 

A reminder - Tune into WHOW tonight (Wed) at 6pm as the Clinton Maroons take on Litchfield at the Mt. Pulaski Holiday Tournament.  Clinton started pool play Tuesday night with a dominant 68-17 win over Tri-City.
