HS BBALL: Clinton Takes Two In Heyworth

In games heard Friday night on WHOW, the Clinton Maroons and Lady Maroons both took home non-conference road wins over the Heyworth Hornets.

The night began with the Clinton Lady Maroons running away from Heyworth, 55-22.  Heyworth actually led after the first quarter, 9 to 8, and kept the game close through much of the second before Clinton got hot, and pulled away to lead by 10 at the half.  The Lady Maroons went on to outscore Heyworth, 32 to 9, in the second half, pulling away for the 33-point win.

Clinton was led by Carly Anderson's 12-points, all from beyond the arc.  She was named the Lady Maroons Serv Pro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game.  Clara Dempsey added 11, and Makayla Koeppel had 8 points for Clinton.

Heyworth was led by Kyra Denning with 12 points.  The Hornets fall to (4-13) with the loss, and next host EPG Monday.

The Lady Maroons improve to (10-8) on the season, and next play Tuesday at home versus Leroy.

The second game of the night saw the Clinton Maroons edge Heyworth in overtime, 61-55, in a nonconference thriller.

Heyworth led for much of the game, but never by more than a half dozen points.  The undersized Maroons fell behind by four in the first, but tied the game, 23-23, at the half.  The Hornets pulled ahead by six, 39-33, at the end of the third, but the Maroons rallied to tie it at 53 at the end of regulation.  The Maroons then outscored Heyworth 8-2 in the extra frame to escape with their fifteenth win of the season.

Clinton was led by Mason Walker's 16 points.  Brooks Cluver added 14, and Anthony Westbrooks contributed 13 off the bench.  Westbrooks performance earned him the WHOW / Serv Pro of Piatt/DeWitt County Maroons Player of the Game.

Heyworth was led by Alex Maas with 20 points, and Nick Feather added 13.  Feather also surpassed 1,000 career points for the Hornets.  They fall to (6-7) overall, and next play Saturday afternoon at Peoria Christian.

The Maroons improve to (15-1) on the season, and next play Saturday at home against Rochester.  You'll next hear the Clinton Boys on WHOW Wednesday night on the road at Monticello.
