HS GBALL: Lady Maroons Fall To Tuscola

In a game heard Thursday night on WHOW, the Clinton Lady Maroons fell at home to the Tuscola Warriors, 51-35, in a Central Illinois Conference matchup at Clinton High School.

The game was a rematch of the Championship Game at the Monticello Holiday Hoopla just after Christmas, but the sequel didn't live up to that three point classic.

Tuscola jumped out to a quick, 6-0, lead to start the game, but Clinton would pull to within one, 14-13, by the end of the first.  In fact, the Lady Maroons overtook Tuscola to lead, 20-18, at the half.  However, the Warriors came out of the half in a zone press that stymied the  Clinton offense.  Tuscola outscored Clinton, 24 to 5, in the quarter, and led 42-25 going into the fourth.  The Lady Maroons outscored Tuscola, 10-9, in the fourth, but the Warriors held on for the 16-point win.

Tuscola was led by Zoey Thomason and Sydney Moss, who each had 14 points. The Warriors improve to (19-1) overall, and (3-0) in the CIC.  They'll next face Altamont on Saturday.

The Lady Maroons were led by Carly Anderson with 11 points. Avery Smith and Makayla Koeppel added six apiece.  Koeppel was named the WHOW / Serv Pro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game.

Clinton falls to (11-9) on the season, and (2-1) in the conference.  They'll host Mt. Pulaski Monday afternoon with the JV tip at 2pm, and the varsity to follow around 3:30pm. You can hear Monday's game on all WHOW platforms.
