HS BBALL: Maroons Down Shelbyville In CIC Opener

In a game heard Friday night on WHOW, the Clinton Maroons walloped the Shelbyville Rams, 87-72, in a Central Illinois Conference boys basketball matchup at Clinton High School.

Clinton came out firing on all cylinders, and dropped in thirty first quarter points to hold a 30-14 lead after one.  Shelbyville would chip away at the Maroons lead over the next two quarters, and eventually cut the margin to six in the third quarter. However, Clinton responded to the challenge, and pulled away late for the fifteen point victory.

Clinton was led by Mason Walker's hot shooting. He hit eight three-pointers in the game, and led all scorers with 24 points to earn the WHOW / Serv Pro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game.  Brooks Cluver added 21 for Clinton, seventeen of which came in the second half.  Dawson Graves had 18 for the Maroons.

Shelbyville was led by Myles Hammond with 22, and Brody Boehm with 15 points.  The Rams fall to (14-5) with the loss, and (1-1) in the CIC.  They're scheduled to take on Cowden-Herrick-Beecher City on Saturday.

Clinton improves to (18-1) on the year, and (1-0) in the conference.  They'll next travel to Meridian Tuesday night.  Our next Maroons "Game of the Week" broadcast comes your way next Friday when Clinton hosts Tuscola in CIC play.
