HS BBALL: Maroons Topple Tuscola

In a game heard Friday night on WHOW, the Clinton Maroons toppled the Tuscola Warriors, 69-54, in a Central Illinois Conference matchup at Clinton High School.

The win is the twentieth for the Maroons, and avenges their lone loss of the season which was to the Warriors in the Monticello Holiday Hoopla Championship Game.  Friday's game was pretty much the opposite of that late December affair.

The Maroons jumped out to an early lead, and never trailed Friday night.  Clinton drilled seven first half three-pointers, and pulled out to a 35-21 lead at the half.  Tuscola made a run in the second half to cut the lead to six at one point, but the Maroons rallied in the fourth to pull away for the fifteen point win.  Clinton's 7 of 8 shooting at the free throw line in the fourth quarter was one of the keys to the win.

Clinton was led by Mason Walker's 23 points, and Brooks Cluver added 18 points.  Colton Walker contributed 16, and was named the WHOW / Serv Pro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game.

Tuscola was led by Kam Sweetnam with 13 points, and Sawyer Woodard with 9. The Warriors fall to 17-3 on the season, and 1-2 in the conference with the loss.

Clinton improves to 20-1 on the year, and 3-0 in the CIC. The Maroons next host Tri-Valley on Monday night.  Hear varsity action around 7:30pm on all WHOW platforms.
