HS BBBall: Monticello Rolls PBL

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Monticello was able to pull away from Paxton-Buckley-Loda in the second half and came away with a 62-36 win in Illini Prairie Conference boys basketball action from the Sievers Center in Monticello.

 

After getting in foul trouble in the first half, Trey Welter came on strong in the second half scoring eight of his ten points and helped lead a Monticello defensive attack that forced the Panthers into 14 turnovers.

 

The Sages 18 points off turnovers and 20 points in transition Friday night and 40 of their 62 points came in the paint. 

 

Monticello 19 assists on its 26 field goals that led to 57.8 percent shooting. 

 

Jack Weidner led Monticello with 11 points. Rai Colbert and Tyler Blythe had nine points apiece, Ike Young added eight points for Monticello.

 

Welter finished with ten points and seven assists. He earned the ServPro of Piatt/DeWitt Counties player of the game.

 

Monticello led 25-20 at the intermission and used a 12-6 run in the first 4:18 of the third quarter to go up 37-26 and never looked back. 

 

PBL drops to 4-15 overall and 0-4 in the Illini Prairie Conference. 

 

Monticello won its third straight going to 11-9 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
