HS GBBall: Pontiac Top Monticello

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Bailey Masching scored a game-high 28 points and led Pontiac over Monticello 42-30 in Illini Prairie Conference girls basketball Monday night at the Sievers Center in Monticello.

 

Trailing 8-4 after the first quarter, Monticello battled back to bring the deficit to 12-11 on a Mady Melton free throw but the Lady Indians finishe the half on a 6-2 run and led 18-13 at the break. 

 

The Lady Sages would get within three and four points at a couple of junctures in the second half but could never get closer as Masching went 8-for-12 at the foul line in the second half. Pontiac made 17-of-28 free throws as a team, including 16-of-24 in the second half to put the game out of reach.

 

Maia High was named the ServPro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game leading Monticello with 11 points. Melton added nine for the Lady Sages who fall to 10-16 overall and 2-4 in the Illini Prairie Conference.
