HS Baseball: Clinton Opens Season Today

This year's senior class of Clinton High School boys athletes has had a very successful sports school year and as they shift to the spring baseball season, they hope to take a step forward under a first-year head coach.

Nate Ennis steps in to take the reigns of the Maroons baseball program long guided by John Hickman who retired at the end of last year. Coach Ennis knows he inherits a group that has had a lot of success this season in other sports and is hungry and eager to create that same buzz this spring.

Like the other two headline sports in at Clinton High School, senior Mason Walker leads the way for Clinton. He'll hit towards the top of the order. He'll pitch. He'll play in the outfield and is the sparkplug for this team.

Coach Ennis is also very confident in his lineup. He admits he is still trying to figure out how to structure his defense - a good problem to have and hopes to see a lot of guys get at-bats this spring.

According to Coach Ennis, those who come out for a ballgame at Evans Field at Clinton High School will notice a new look to the field. The field has had artificial turf put in at home plage which looks almost unnoticeable when you see the new, darker dirt on the infield.

Clinton opens the baseball season this afternoon hosting Delavan at 4:30 pm. Coach Ennis has quite the opening day ceremony planned and hopes the community takes advantage of the nice weather and comes out to support the Maroons this week.

They'll resume play at home Wednesday taking on Heyworth at 4:30 pm. Hear Wednesday's action on WHOW and all its digital platforms.

The Maroons play at home Friday hosting Lexington before hitting the road for the first time Saturday morning at Cornerstone Christian Academy in Bloomington.
