HS Baseball: Monticello Wallops LeRoy

In a game heard on WEZC and online and at dewittdailynews.com, the Monticello Sages hit three home runs and wallopped LeRoy 26-0 in four innings Monday afternoon in season-opening high school boys baseball action from Monticello.

 

Matt Swartz hit a two-run home run that highlighted a 12-run first inning.

 

Koyie Williams hit a two-run home run in a nine-run second inning and Colton Vance blasted a grand slam that capped a seven-run third inning.

 

The Sages led 19-0 after two and a half innings and the game could have concluded with the three-inning, 15-run rule but the two sides elected to play another inning.

 

Luke Teschke pitched two scoreless, hitless innings. The Illinois State commit struck out six and walked one. Brody Bellido finished the last two frames allowing no runs on one hit with no walks issued and three strikeouts.

 

Carter Foran finished 3-for-6 for Monticello with a pair of RBIs, a pair of runs scored and a triple.

 

Swartz finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs, two runs scored, a double and walk in addition to the two-run home run.

 

Teschke was 1-for-2 with a double, three runs and a walk.

 

Jacob Long was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored.

 

Eli Craft was hit by two pitches and had an RBI single. Ike Young finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, a double, and three runs scored. 

 

Dylan Brown was 2-for-2 with three RBIs.

 

Braden Loy hit a double for LeRoy.

 

The Panthers drop to 0-1. Monticello is 1-0.

 

The Sages take on Villa Grove on Wednesday.
