HS Baseball: Clinton Doubles Up Heyworth

In a game heard on WHOW and at dewittdailynews.com, Preston Curtis got Clinton out of a tough spot in the fifth inning and preserved a 4-2 Maroons win over Heyworth in non-conference baseball action from Evans Field at Clinton High School Wednesday afternoon.

With the Maroons up 4-2, Curtis came on in relief of starting pitcher Brock Wilson with runners on first and second, and one out. Curtis hit the first batter he faced to load the bases then struck out the two to get out of the jam.

Curtis got through the next two innings to close out the win and Clinton picked up its first win of the season.

Josh Bass drove in two runs with a double, finishing 1-for-2 with a walk. Jack Manning and Mason Walker had RBIs for Clinton. Brooks Cluver was 1-for-3 with an infield single.

Mason Walker and Colton Walker each made highlight-reel diving catches in the outfield Wednesday. Colton Walker's diving catch in the seventh inning closed out the win for the Maroons.

It was Heyworth's season opener as the Hornets fell to 0-1 overall.

Clinton is 1-1 on the season and takes on Lexington on Friday afternoon.
