Illinois State Outslugs Northern Illinois

Illinois State pounded out 13 hits while scoring 16 runs - tying the second most runs scored during the 2024 season - securing a 16-12 win over Northern Illinois Wednesday in Normal.

 

Seven different players tallied a hit during the contest, marked by Judah Morris' four RBIs including a double and home run. 

 

In total, five different Redbirds hit a home run on Wednesday, highlighted by junior Noah Rabin's team-leading eighth home run of 2024.

 

ISU scored eight runs in the first two innings. JT Sokolove and a two-run dinger by Rabin hit home runs to help the Redbirds get out front early. 

 

In the third inning, Greg Nichols' first home run of the season to made it a 10-2 ballgame. Morris sent a no-doubt moonshot over the left field fence that made it 12-6 in the fourth. 

 

Auggie Rasmussen hit a home run in the 8th inning.

 

Carter Monke went 3.0 innings with three strikeouts until a four-run fourth for NIU knocked him out of the game.

 

Northern Illinois moves to 7-14 after the loss.

 

After a three-game sweep at the hands of eighth-ranked Vanderbilt March 8-10, the Redbirds have won five of six to go to 10-9 overall. 

 

Illinois State hosts Bradley this weekend at Duffy Bass Field for its Missouri Valley Conference opener.
