HS Baseball: Monticello Blanks Champaign St. Thomas More

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Carter Foran was brilliant on the mound for Monticello providing a huge lift at the start of a busy week, leading the Sages to a 10-0, six inning, run-rule win over Champaign St. Thomas More in Illini Prairie Conference high school baseball action from the Wilkey Complex in Monticello.

 

Foran went six innings and faced just one over the minimum - permitting a base hit in the fourth inning. The junior struck out five while sitting down the first ten batters he faced the final eight after a one-out hit in the fourth inning by Wilson Kirby.

 

Luke Teschke ripped a two-run double in the Sages half of the first inning to get the scoring started. Eli Craft blasted a two-run home run in the fourth inning that put Monticello up 6-0.

 

STM pitching walked seven batters and its defense committed four errors. Monticello took advantage. 

 

Foran added an RBI groundout in the second inning and singled in a run in the third.

 

Ike Young brought in two runners with a base in the bottom of the sixth inning that ended the game on the ten-run rule.

 

Teshke finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases. 

 

Foran was the ServPro of Piatt/DeWitt Counties player of the game.

 

Monticello remains undefeated moving to 16-0 overall and 3-0 in the Illini Prairie Conference. They host Mattoon on Tuesday.
