HS Baseball: Washington Takes Two From Bloomington

Washington pulled away late in the first game of a doubleheader with Bloomington High School Saturday and then made quick work of the Purple Raiders in the second game to sweep two in non-conference high school baseball action from Bloomington High School.

The Panthers extended a 6-1 lead to 11-1 in the top of the sixth inning with a five-run frame and wrapped up the run-rule win for the opener.

Zach Spidle had the only RBI for Bloomington in the opener.

The Purple Raiders defense struggled, committing four errors.

Washington was paced by Bradyn Vanderheydt who was 3-for-3 with three runs scored in the ninth spot. Seth Harmon, Tyler Humphrey and Jackson Stewart drove in two runs apiece for the Panthers.

Tyler Diderich allowed a run on two hits with five strikeouts and two walks in five innings for Washington.

In the second game, Brady Johnson and Zane Skulte combined for five innings of three-hit, shutout ball for Washington as the Panthers took the second game 10-0.

Jacob Calhoun, Wesley Stombaugh, and Luke Huffaker had the only hits for the Purple Raiders.

Carter Prina and Tyler Humphrey drove in two runs apiece to lead the Panthers' offense in the second game. Camden Augustine had three hits and Dylan McGinnis had two hits.

Washington goes to 16-6 on the year. Bloomington falls to 14-12. Albeit a thrilling game, Bloomington will look to avenge an 11-10, eight-inning defeat Friday when they host Normal Community today.
