Thea Key's fourth-inning home run was all the backing Cassidee Stoeffel needed as Monticello took down Mattoon 1-0 in non-conference high school softball action from the Wilke Complex in Monticello Wednesday.
Key also doubled and walked to finish 2-for-3. Sadie Walsh was 2-for-3 at the top of the order for the Lady Sages.
Stoeffel permitted four hits, a walk and struck out four across her seven sparkling innings.
The win is the fifth straight for Monticello who finishes the regular season 18-12. It's off to postseason play when the Lady Sages take on Tolono Unity at the St. Joseph-Ogden Regional next Wednesday.
