HS Baseball: Mt. Pulaski Tops Decatur St. Teresa for Regional Championship

Chance Payne and Luke Martin combined on the mound to hold Decatur St. Teresa to just a run on three hits and Mt. Pulaski won its Class 1A Regional Championship game Saturday in Decatur at St. Teresa High School.

 

Martin permitted an unearned run while striking out seven and walking three in 4 2/3 innings. Payne fired 2 1/3 hitless innings but struggled with control allowing five walks to go with seven strikeouts.

 

Martin was 1-for-3 with an RBI double while Landon Smith was 1-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and stole three bases. The Hilltoppers had eight stolen bases as a team.

 

Franklin Wade had an RBI and a stolen base.

 

Mt. Pulaski is 25-3 overall. They advance to the Arcola Section on Wednesday to take on Armstrong-Potomac or St. Anne at 4 pm.
