Tate Brandenburg and Zayn Giles paced a big offensive display by Maroa-Forsyth as the Trojans upset Normal U-High 13-1 in a six inning, run-rule win to capture a 2A Regional Championship on Saturday from the Bloomington Central Catholic Regional.
The Trojans started fast thanks to a Brandenburg two-run double. Zayn Giles three-run single in the second inning made it 5-0 then Conner Kelly and Kaiden Maurer had RBI hits in a three-run third.
Giles was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and Brandenburg was 2-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBIs. Maurer scored three runs and drove in another for the Trojans. Mitch Williams was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI while Kelly drove in a run as well.
Maurer got the start for Maroa-Forsyth going six innings and allowing a run on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
The Trojans go to 23-4 overall. They move on to take on St. Joseph-Ogden Wednesday from the Millikin Sectional at 4:30 pm.
