A three-run sixth inning put Normal Community out front and the Ironmen held on to beat Rock Island 4-1 in Class 3A Regional Championship action Saturday in Normal.
Owen Cavanaugh doubled in a run, Anthony Gura singled him home and then Drew Stevens finished the scoring with a pinch-hit, run-scoring single for the Ironmen.
Jonah Roper went seven innings of one-run ball for Normal. The junior struck out nine, walked none, and allowed eight hits.
Cavanaugh finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Gura was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Dexter Niekam tie the game in the third inning with a sac-fly RBI.
The Ironmen go to 33-3 overall. They will take on Bradley-Bourbonnais at the Illinois Wesley Sectional on Wednesday.
