HS Baseball: Maroa-Forsyth Blanks Monticello in Sectional Championship

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Kaiden Maurer struck out ten in a complete game effort as Maroa-Forsyth blanked Monticello 5-0 in a Class 2A Sectional Championship game at Decatur Millikin University Saturday afternoon.

Maurer started his outing striking out the first four batters he faced. The only threat the Sages could mount against the right-hander was in the fifth inning when Ike Young and Eli Craft started the inning with back-to-back singles. Neither base runner advanced as Maurer got the next three in order.

The Trojans offense had base runners in every inning. They scored three runs in the second inning highlighted by an RBI single from Connor Kelly and then an RBI double off the bat of Ian Reid.

Tate Brandenburg hit a sac fly RBI in the fourth to make it 4-0 and Brandenburg brought in another run in the fifth on a fly ball error in left field to put the Trojans up 5-0.

Young, Craft, Carter Foran, and Matt Swartz had the only hits for the Sages.

Colton Vance was the ServPro of Piatt/DeWitt Counties Player of the Game for his defense in the loss Saturday.

Monticello ends its season 31-5 and a school record for wins in a season.

The Trojans go to 27-4 overall and advance to Monday's Supersectional in Springfield taking on Litchfield.
