HS Baseball: Maroa-Forsyth Punches Ticket to State Finals With Supersectional Win Over Litchfield

Tate Brandenburg had another huge day at the plate leading Maroa-Forsyth over Litchfield 10-4 in Class 2A Supersectional high school baseball action Monday in Springfield.

 

Brandenburg drove in five runs and finished 2-for-5. The junior tripled in two in the opening frame then tripled in two more in the second as Maroa-Forsyth opened up a 9-1 lead after three innings. 

 

Brandenburg drove in six of seven Trojans' runs in its 7-3 win over St. Joseph-Ogden last Wednesday in the sectional semifinal in Decatur.

 

Zayn Giles drove in four runs and finished 2-for-5 with a double and a triple. Kaiden Maurer was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Mitch Williams finished 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and scored three runs. 

 

Ace Giles drew three walks and Maroa-Forsyth as a team had 12 walks in the game.

 

Connor Kelly fired 5 1/3 innings allowing four runs on three hits with three walks. Cayden Rose finished the Trojans' win with 1 2/3 scoreless frames.

 

It is the second state finals appearance for Maroa-Forsyth in three seasons. They will take on Newman Central Catholic on Friday at 4 pm.
