The Washington Panthers were a win away from an appearance in the state title game in the Class 6A high school football playoffs last year.
It was an experienced group led by Darrell Crouch, who coached his final game in a tough defeat to East St. Louis in the semifinals at Washington High School. First-year coach Todd Stevens says that group provided a great example for the next wave of Panthers.
The Panthers offense will not look much different from its time under Coach Crouch. Coach Stevens says they are still going to rely on running the football and controlling the clock.
Coach Stevens believes the Mid Illini and their non-conference should prepare them well for the postseason. The Mid Illini in particular, he believes will be very balanced with good teams with good players up and down the area.
