The IHSA is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the football playoffs as a new season is set to kick off. Hall of Fame coach John Elder of Alexis helped create the first postseason format in 1974.

Elder and his Alexis team played for a state title in the first year of the playoffs in 1974.

The 2024 high school football season begins Monday with the first official day of practice.
