In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Ike Young found Nolan Buehnerkemper from 22 yards out to put Monticello in front 28-25 with 25 seconds left as Monticello escaped with a win over Central Catholic in Illini Prairie Conference action Friday in Bloomington.
BCC led 25-21 and looked like they would put the game away with junior quarterback Valshun Powe picking up yardage in chunks on the final drive. But a penalty on second down and a bad snap on third down forced the Saints to punt with 45 seconds left.
Carter Foran finished the game of his career with a 47-yard return on the punt return to set up the game-winning score.
Foran had an interception returned 90 yards at the 7:30 mark of the third quarter to put Monticello ahead 21-10.
He also had a 20-yard reception for a touchdown in the second quarter that put Monticello ahead for the first time 7-3.
The senior finished with seven receptions for 140 yards and a touchdown. He was the ServPro of Piatt/DeWitt Counties player of the game.
Buehnerkemper finished with four receptions for 35 yards with the game-winning touchdown.
Young was 13 of 17 through the air for 226 yards and had a rushing touchdown on eight carries with eight yards.
The Saints drop to 2-2 overall.
