Monticello scored four touchdowns out of the half and rolled Pontiac 49-0 in Illini Prairie Conference high school football Friday night at Homecoming in Monticello.
Leading 21-0, Monticello went three-and-out to start the second half but Pontiac also went three-and-out and misplayed the snap on the punt. Monticello was able to recovered then senior quarterback Ike Young ran in a touchdown from 18 yards out to put Monticello ahead 28-0.
Monticello forced Pontiac to a three-and-out on the next possesion. The Indians botched the punt when Monticello recovered inside the ten yard line.
Senior tailback Quan Nguyen (knew-en) scored his first varsity touchdown from five yards out to put the Sages ahead 35-0.
On Pontiac's next possession, the Indians dropped back on third down and quarterback Santi Pina was being sacked and fumbled the football into the end zone where interior defensive lineman Carter Koopman picked it up for a touchdown.
On Pontiac's next possession, backup quarterback Hayden Romano scored from 12 yards out to conclude the Sages scoring.
Junior tailback Koyie Williams scored his first varsity touchdown Friday night from three yards out.
Young finished 124 yards rushing on 13 carries and three touchdowns. He also was 15-of-21 for 107 yards.
Both teams battled a consistent wind of 30 MPH plus throughout the night blowing north to south across the field.
Nguyen was the ServPro of Piatt/DeWitt Counties Player of the Game.
