The Clinton Lady Maroons kicked off the girls' basketball season with a 58-28 win over Olympia, continuing a decade-long tradition at the high school.
Clinton Athletic Director Matt Koeppel explains they are in the 11th year of the Turkey Tussle. This tournament started in participation with Riverton High School but is now hosted entirely by Clinton.
One of the major benefits of hosting the tournament is getting 4 home games. Koeppel says they will continue to host the event as long as there are teams interested in participating.
Koeppel notes one of the major challenges of a large tournament is finding officials. He says it's not easy, so they do everything they can to treat the refs well.
The Lady Maroons will match up against Decatur Eisenhower on Wednesday night at 8:00 PM. Tune in to Clinton Boys Basketball on Monday to hear the Maroons take on Buffalo Tri-City High School, tip off is at 5:00 PM.
