HS BBBall: Monticello Rallies Past ALAH

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, five players scored in double figures and Monticello overcame a fast start by Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond to win 66-40 in non-conference high school boy's basketball action from Arthur Tuesday.

The Knights went 7-of-13 from beyond the arc in the first half, using the three-ball to keep the score close, 29-27 at halftime but the Sages outscored ALAH 37-13 in the second half.

It was quite the turnaround for ALAH who lost 58-10 last year in Monticello.

Nate Hale scored 11 of his game-high 17 points in the first half, helping the Knights trade runs in the first half.

ALAH went to a box-in-one to limit Monticello's leading scorer Gatsby Grant, but the senior worked his way to a team-high 14 points.

The Sages had an astounding 50 points in the paint.

Junior Nolan Buehnerkemper recorded his first career double-double for Monticello with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Ike Young had 12 points, three assists, three steals, and three rebounds for the Sages.

Carter Foran added 11 points and Maddux Quick had 10 points for Monticello.

The Sages turned 18 Knights turnovers into 27 points and used 17 offensive rebounds to convert 18 second-chance points. Monticello controlled the glass 38-24.

While shooting 49 percent from the floor, Monticello went just 3-for-16 from three and shot 5-of-13 at the foul line.

ALAH drops to 1-8 overall.

Monticello goes to 2-4 overall. They take on Richland County from the Greenville Shootout Saturday at 4:30 pm. Hear the action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
