HS BBBall: Monticello Holds Off Maroa-Forsyth

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, the Monticello Sages made just enough plays down the stretch and held off a depleted Maroa-Forsyth basketball team 48-45 in non-conference high school boy's basketball action Saturday in Maroa.

The two played almost even most of the game - neither team leading by more than five points. The Trojans led 30-25 early in the third quarter, the largest lead by either side.

Ike Young had a put-back offensive rebound late in the fourth quarter that put Monticello ahead 46-43.

Maroa-Forsyth senior Mitch Williams was fouled on a drive to the basket on the next possession and made two free throws to bring the Trojans within 46-45.

Being forced to foul the Trojans sent Monticello senior Carter Foran to the line for two free throws and the senior knocked down one of two to put the Sages up 47-45.

A three on the next possession for Maroa-Forsyth came up short and Monticello put the game away at the foul line.

Young led all scorers with 18 points. He earned the ServPro of Piatt/DeWitt Counties Player of the Game.

The Trojans had three players score in double figures. Williams led the way with 14 points. Brady Doss scored 12 points and Kenny Morris added 11 points.

The Trojans are 8-7 overall. They host Rochester on Tuesday.

Monticello is 9-8 overall. They will host Olympia on Tuesday night. Hear the action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
